      Play Styles Workshop

A team can look capable on paper and still struggle to access the full range of energy, strengths and contribution within it. Gallup’s latest data places employee engagement across Australia and New Zealand at just 21%, highlighting how much human potential remains out of reach in today’s workplaces.

Play Styles brings a new level of depth to team profiling.

Every person has a distinctive play nature, expressed through their own combination of six primary styles, 24 subtypes and seven dimensions. Together, these reveal the natural pathways through which someone accesses curiosity, connection, adaptability and intrinsic motivation, and the conditions that help them bring more of those qualities to their work.

Developed by Dr Stuart Brown and the National Institute for Play, the framework draws on more than 40 years of research, over 5,000 personal play histories and the foundations of affective neuroscience, including Jaak Panksepp’s identification of play as one of seven primary emotional systems.

Corporate Challenge Events brings this work to teams across Australia, New Zealand, PNG and the Pacific as NIFPlay’s exclusive regional partner.

When individual profiles are brought together through the team report and facilitated workshop, the dynamics beneath performance become clearer. Differences are easier to interpret, overlooked strengths become visible and the team gains a more precise language for understanding how its people engage and contribute.

Leaders gain a sharper view of the people behind the roles and practical insight into the conditions that allow more of them to perform at their best.

      What to Expect

      Individual Assessment

Each participant completes the premium NIFPlay assessment and receives a 12-page personalised report that translates their Play Styles into practical workplace insight.

The report covers their leading styles, all 24 subtype scores and seven dimensions, alongside their signature strengths, communication patterns, growth opportunities, wellbeing indicators and play history. It also provides personalised ways to reconnect with the forms of play that restore curiosity, flexibility and drive.

Participants enter the workshop with a well-developed understanding of how they engage, collaborate and contribute.

      Aggregated Team Report

Individual assessment results are anonymised and aggregated into a Team Play Pulse, providing a detailed view of the team as a whole.

This personalised team report shows far more than which styles are present. It captures team health across engagement, wellbeing, connection, playfulness and play frequency, reveals dominant strengths and maps where the team is aligned or divided in how it prefers to work.

It also identifies communication patterns, responses under pressure, shadow sides and styles that may be absent or frequently misread. Leaders gain a practical picture of what is helping the team perform, where friction is likely to form and which changes could strengthen the way its people work together.

      Team Insight Discovery

The team examines its results against the reality of working together. Participants identify what lifts or drains energy, how different strengths show up, which contributions may be overlooked and where contrasting styles create either value or friction.

This connects the profiles to the conditions shaping communication, resilience, collaboration and performance across the team.

      Team Action Map

The experience culminates in a team-specific Action Map. It turns insight into agreed changes in how meetings are run, ideas are invited, strengths are used, challenges are approached and energy is restored when pressure rises.

Leaders leave with a practical guide for creating the right conditions across different styles. The team leaves with clear commitments that reshape how its people connect, adapt and perform together.

      Your Team, Revealed

The Value Is in the Blend

Play Styles does not reduce a person to a single colour, letter or workplace label. Every profile is a unique blend of Creator, Explorer, Competitor, Organizer, Dreamer and Mover, refined through 24 subtypes and seven dimensions that show how those preferences are expressed.

The assessment identifies natural pathways into play, not capability, job fit or a fixed personality. This gives teams a more useful conversation. People can see both their strongest entry points and the styles available beyond those preferences, creating room for greater self-awareness, flexibility and a more generous understanding of how others contribute.

“Nothing lights up the brain like play.”

      Who is Play Styles for

Some teams are rebuilding. Others have simply reached the limit of how well they can work together without deeper insight. Play Styles is particularly valuable when a team is newly formed, restructured, growing, navigating change or carrying friction that previous conversations have not resolved.

It also gives established teams a fresh way to address recurring communication gaps, uneven participation and strengths that remain underused. This makes it a strong foundation for leadership development, strategy days, culture programs and team resets.

The workshop is not reserved for teams in trouble. It is for leaders ready to go beyond a shared activity and gain a more accurate view of their people before deciding how the team will collaborate, adapt and perform in its next chapter.
