Perth gives us a lot to play with. We can take a team from a conference room to the sand at Scarborough, bring them together among the sounds of Perth Zoo, or give them room to reset on Rottnest Island. I love finding a setting that changes how people feel when they arrive. Then we design an experience that makes the most of it.
I want people to leave with more than a photo and a good lunch. I want them talking to colleagues they rarely work with, trying something unfamiliar and discovering how much they can do together. That takes the right mix of venue, program and facilitation. These five places give me five very different ways to create it.
How I bring a venue to life
Play gives a team something to do together. When people are making decisions, solving problems and having a laugh, you see how they communicate, who brings others in and how they respond when a plan changes. My role is to shape that experience around what the team needs, then help them take something useful from it back to work.
Sometimes the venue is already booked. If you’re holding a conference at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre, I’ll work with the space and time you have. A short break in the agenda calls for a different program from an afternoon set aside for the whole team. Either way, I want people taking part, enjoying themselves and leaving with a shared experience they’ll keep talking about.
Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough
I love the flexibility at Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough. You have the open feel of Scarborough, the sea breeze and more than 20 event spaces to work with. There is room to build a day that moves between presentations, smaller group conversations, play and a shared meal, instead of asking one room to do everything.
This would be one of my first suggestions for a team that wants a conference or planning session with a genuinely engaging activity built into it. The beachside setting gives the day a lift, while the choice of rooms helps us plan for different group sizes and ways of participating. If you want to take the activity onto Scarborough Beach, I’ll work with you to arrange any required permits and plan for the weather. Then we can make the most of the location with Beach Olympics, bringing the team together for a playful challenge before returning to the hotel.
Samphire Rottnest

Sometimes a group needs enough distance from its normal routine to give one another its full attention. That is what appeals to me about Samphire Rottnest. The island gives people the chance to slow down, be present and have the conversations that keep getting squeezed out of a regular workday. You can make the most of that change of pace while still giving the group a high-quality resort experience.
I would consider Samphire for a leadership offsite, a team reconnecting after a period of change, or a longer event with time for both structured work and shared play. Survivor could give the group a challenge to tackle together on the island. I’d plan the activity around ferry times, leaving enough room for arrivals, meals and a proper finish so no one spends the day watching the clock. Samphire also works with Corporate Challenge Events on customised team building, which makes it a natural choice when the activity is central to the visit.
The Vines Resort

I like The Vines Resort because you can get out of the city without making the journey the whole story. Around half an hour from Perth, it feels like you have arrived somewhere quite different. The open spaces, shade and function rooms give us options for how the day unfolds.
For a group that needs both focused work and time to reconnect, I might start inside with a meeting or workshop, move into a team challenge outside, then bring everyone back together to talk about what they noticed. That change of setting can help people shift from listening to participating. I’d consider Play Offs outdoors between an indoor planning session and a shared meal, provided the booked space suits the program.
The Maali at Perth Zoo

What I love about The Maali at Perth Zoo is that you feel the zoo around you. There are large, open rooms, windows overlooking the enclosures and the sounds and movement of the animals nearby. It changes the energy of a team day before we’ve even begun. You can bring everyone together for a conference session or a meal, while giving them a setting they’ll be curious to explore.
And I’d make sure they get to explore it. Just Zoo It takes teams into the zoo for a shared challenge where they have to observe, make decisions and work together. It gives people a reason to talk to colleagues they might not usually spend time with and brings play into the day in a way that feels completely natural to the location.
Hillarys Yacht Club

For teams in Perth’s northern suburbs, Hillarys Yacht Club deserves a look. I like the water, the yachts and the sense of space. It can give people a relaxed place to come together while still offering the flexibility needed for a properly planned team event.
I can see it working well for a team planning day or celebration. For a hands-on activity, I’d consider LEGO Legends before bringing everyone together for a meal by the marina. I’ll work with the club to confirm the right room, equipment and setup for your group, so those details are taken care of before the day.
Which setting fits your team
| Venue | Three programs that could work here | Highlights | Suited to |
| Rendezvous Hotel Perth Scarborough | Beach Olympics, Play Offs, LEGO Legends | Beach access and a choice of more than 20 event spaces give us options for both outdoor play and indoor sessions. | A conference or planning day that needs an energising team activity. |
| Samphire Rottnest | Survivor, Play Offs, LEGO Legends | An island setting that gives the group time away from its usual routine. | A leadership offsite or team retreat where there’s time to reconnect. |
| The Vines Resort | Play Offs, Survivor, LEGO Legends | Function rooms, shaded areas and open space allow the day to move between focused work and play. | A full team day combining a workshop, outdoor challenge and meal. |
| The Maali at Perth Zoo | Just Zoo It, LEGO Legends, Bikes for Tykes | Spacious rooms and the chance to build a zoo experience into the day. | A conference, celebration or team event where the setting can become part of the activity. |
| Hillarys Yacht Club | LEGO Legends, Bikes for Tykes, Play Offs | A waterfront location with room to plan an activity alongside a meal or function. | A northern suburbs team gathering or celebration. |
Once we have a venue in mind, I’ll check the space against the program, not just the seated capacity. That includes access for everyone attending, room to move and facilitate, AV, weather cover and permission to use any outdoor areas. I’ll work through those details with the venue so the experience we plan is the one your team can actually enjoy on the day.
Why the program matters as much as the place
There is a science behind play. It gives adults a way to explore, experiment and connect while they are actively involved, rather than being told what good teamwork looks like. When I facilitate, I pay attention to who speaks up, who draws others in, how the group handles a setback and what changes once people relax into the challenge. A team can often recognise those same patterns at work. That is when the debrief becomes useful, because we can talk about what to keep practising after the event.
That is why I use our Trusted Play Process from the first conversation through to the final debrief. We work out what the team needs, choose a program and setting that give everyone a way in, and make time to notice the behaviours the group wants to carry forward. The venue supports that experience. The program gives people something meaningful to do together.
Plan the right Perth team event
If you have already booked a venue, tell me the date, group size, room layout and what you want your people to get from the day. If you are still deciding, tell me the kind of event you have in mind. I can help you weigh the practical details against the experience you want to create and suggest a program that fits.
